What is the Smiley Scholars Program?

The Tavis Smiley Foundation is accepting applications from Youth to Leaders alumni for the 2011 Smiley Scholars program. If you have participated in any of our programs, have graduated high school and are now in your freshman year of college, you may be eligible to apply. We will award 15 scholarships of $5,000 each. The deadline is September 30, 2011. Awards will be announced in November 2011.

What are the scholarship awards?

This year Smiley Scholars will award 15 scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. Applications must be received by September 30, 2011. Winners will be announced in November.

SCHOLARSHIP PARTNERS

The 2011 Smiley Scholars program includes partnerships with the Anheuser-Busch Better World Scholars program and the United Health Foundation. You can only apply for one opportunity.

United Health Foundation

If you are majoring in a field that will lead to a career in the healthcare industry (medical doctor, dentist, psychologist, etc.) you should apply for the United Health Foundation scholarship. You must include an essay that details why you’ve chosen this field and how you plan to give back to the community in this career. For example, some past recipients have shared plans to open family care clinics or open a practice in their communities.

Anheuser-Busch Better World Scholars

You can major in any field and be eligible for this scholarship opportunity. You do not need to submit an additional essay.
